Sigh. It makes me sad to ponder how so few precious years they will have together. Wesley clearly had the potential to live past 100. That’s primarily why he was still “slightly alive”. He had more than 51 years to lose! But, alas, I had this epiphany.
20 years later, the now retired Giant comes to see how his friend is doing. He sees a young man, the spitting image of Wesley, but it’s not him. He invites him in, and the place is abustle with all of their children. Buttercup, still so beautiful at 40ish, invites him to Sid on a bench that can accommodate him. He has brought his own daughter, a large and handsome young woman, eager to finally meet the great adventurer. Down the stairs comes what appears to be a man of around 95, aided by one of the children. At first she thinks he must be their great grandfather, but no, he is their father; to her shock, she learns that this is Wesley, still noble and handsome in his advanced appearance, but clearly having little time left.
Still, he makes the most of it as always, and greets his friend as warmly as ever.
